Day 2

Day 2, had a good out doors time picking up trash in Tierra Park for an hour then hosting and playing in a disc golf fund raiser for the Food Bank of Lincoln. We had 13 participants and raised $168 with registration and raffle prizes.

Had a single bowl of cereal (honey nut cherios) for breakfast, along with several cups of coffee. A single chicken burrito and iced tea for lunch. Tammy made tacos for dinner. Using the giant "stand up" hard shells I only had three. Those things are huge, will limit it to two next time. And then of course a Paczki which Eli brought home from Russ's this afternoon. A Paczki is known as a Berliner in German, which reminded me of President Kennedy saying "Ich bin ein Berliner." The use of "ein" changes the meaning of Berliner so that he basically called himself a jelly donut. Americans think this is funny, Germans don't care and are just glad the USA stepped up to help keep Berlin from being overcome by communism in the early 1960s.

  1. Also cracked open The Daily Ukulele book and learned "(They Long To Be) Close To You". Really nice chord changes, especially like the E7sus E7 Em7 Am. And I'm a sucker for the Asus4 to A7. Burt Bacharach really knew how to put together music in an amazing way.

A second song for today was "Ain't She Sweet". Start off using the pinky for the C then drop down the other fingers for the Ab7, then slide that hand position down to G7. It's about conservation of movement. Oh, and I was singing it in the style of Tom Waits, slow beat, low and very grumbly voice. My wife was in the other room probably thinking "what the hell is he doing"... lol.

  2. so I take it that a paczki is a jelly donut?

Where would I find the Daily Ukulele book? Sounds great. Also, I love those old songs like "Ain't She Sweet" on the ukulele. My favorite oldie is "five foot two".

  3. Yep, a paczki is a basically a jelly donut and has an origin in religion according to the side of the box. Something about having raised dough before leavened bread representing Exodus.

http://www.dailyukulele.com is a link to the book. Got mine from Amazon for about $22. We have a local uke group and we will be discussing the book as a standard for the group. it's got 365 songs.

Which uke do you prefer for Five Foot Two?

  4. The uke I like best for FIVE FOOT TWO is my pono soprano. tried them all but the soprano give it the honey tonk feeling. The next uke would be the Kala concert with Aquilla strings (also for that high, tinny sound).

I am looking to purchase the DAILY UKULELE and am thinking about it as a kindle book so that I can have it on my iPad
